my glovebox has the acquired knife (the automatic locking freaks me out a bit so it’s in case I need to slice my way out of the canvas). the locking wheelnut thingy and cds. sometimes an umbrella, sometimes sunglasses.

flute – I thought after cataract surgery, you only needed readers – if anything?

  • 11:42:39 am on January 29, 2015 | 0 | # |

yeah I don’t like those ones that leave a lethal edge. are electric ones those ones people have fixed on the wall? I don’t like that. I like mine in the pot with the wooden spoons etc but then I don’t use a can opener much.

we have snow forecast but I doubt it will call for a blower ;)

  • 11:28:10 am on January 29, 2015 | 0 | # |

maryanne – I do vaguely remember that name but not the Bronx bit ;)

glad the snow blower is up and running flute. did hubby mention you got it going AFTER he shovelled?

I use a turn handle tin opener – they’re becoming obsolete? what should I be using. remember that swiss army knife thingy I acquired in montreal? ;)

  • 07:14:33 pm on January 28, 2015 | 0 | # |

did you post on the ebay q&a? maybe you were on at a different time to me. anyway, welcome :)

hi ez – I’ve missed your singing ;)

happy new year to you too – hope it’s a good one :)

hope you’re enjoying the tennis – sorry your man’s gone out but mine’s still in – watch him ;)

  • 06:54:28 pm on January 22, 2015 | 0 | # |

I think I was basically saying if she’s going to get her pneumatic boobs out, having the bra on display is tacky

  • 06:53:37 pm on January 22, 2015 | 0 | # |

if a post disappears, if you press the keyboard up arrow, it will usually bring it back.

  • 05:12:52 pm on January 22, 2015 | 0 | # |

exactly – it doesn’t get more tedious than that. at least on the other board, you can do the up arrow thing.

  • 04:44:40 pm on January 22, 2015 | 0 | # |

great….whole post gone. again. why bother

  • 07:28:47 pm on January 20, 2015 | 0 | # |

depends what they mean by Spanish. quite a few languages spoken in spain.

  • 06:28:33 pm on January 18, 2015 | 0 | # |

no – very boring in comparison ;)

  • 07:52:30 am on January 18, 2015 | 0 | # |

well I realise that but why now? why were all the local schools considered ok back in the day?

  • 08:02:22 pm on January 17, 2015 | 0 | # |

flute – when and why did that become such an issue. we have people moving house so little jimmy can go to such and such a school and people booking them in the day they’re born. madness.

    hi Damian :)

  • 06:26:45 pm on January 17, 2015 | 0 | # |

    where’s Damian anyway??

  • 06:10:01 pm on January 17, 2015 | 0 | # |

just go to the local school like they did in my day

  • 05:49:40 pm on January 17, 2015 | 0 | # |

I assume it works by taking all those things into account?

  • 05:40:27 am on January 17, 2015 | 0 | # |

    morning earthlings :)

*waving to salt in case she’s here*

  • 11:28:41 am on January 16, 2015 | 0 | # |

I’ve never been able to grasp the guilt thing. I don’t know who people think they’re answerable to. I’ve worked for 42 years and if I can’t slob out now, when can I?

  • 05:58:51 pm on January 15, 2015 | 0 | # |

it’s just simon’s cat but hey if you don’t trust me……..

  • 08:25:42 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

I actually like roasted veg with couscous – just not their version. lol! I don’t really understand it though cos I thought all the airlines used the same airport kitchens.

  • 07:50:14 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

mick – the thing that struck me was the uproar tht would ensue if anyone said something was a black people thing.

  • 07:49:27 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

flute – the main part of both meals was I think supposed to be roasted veg with couscous. mainly courgette and tomatoes but it was pretty tasteless. BA was much better and they do all different diets.

  • 07:01:33 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

I was eyeing up the cheese pizza, the man next to me had. lol

  • 07:00:48 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

flute – in fairness they tried. they just don’t get it so I think regardless of what dietary restriction you have, you get the same meal ;) so it was veggie, vegan, gluten free etc etc and the same thing both times – I almost stopped being veggie, I was so hungry I was nearly chewing my handbag ;)

  • 06:26:09 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

    I miss salt…:( I miss unsalted too :(

  • 06:22:52 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

candancie – I’m a huge coffee drinker. we don’t have this that and the other veggies. if you don’t eat meat, fish or products thereof (basically anything that has a face), you’re veggie. if you don’t eat anything that ever involved an animal, eg milk, you’re vegan.

try telling that to American airlines…………

cream tea always lives up to expectations. fruit scones, clotted cream, strawberry jam, tea/coffee – how can it not??

  • 04:22:43 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

it drives me completely crazy on spencer’s board but at least you can sometimes retrieve it. never happened here before.

  • 04:21:14 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

    another go….:?

I like everything about tea as in high tea except….tea. people only really have ‘tea’ if it’s a cream tea.

the rot set in for cadbury when kraft bought them. i should have filled my freezer. american chok is inedible. the creme egg thing is awful but not surprising.

i’m vegetarian not vegan so i eat milk cheese and eggs.

cadbury’s dairy milk is the name of the bar. “every bar contains a glass and a half of full cream milk”

flute – that list sort of makes sense. if you stay in someone’s house they will often wake you with a cuppa. then cheese roll/teacake/cake/biscuits mid morning. dinner, tea, supper – cheese&biscuits or a sandwich. unless tea was 4-5pm (hence the need for supper), i’m surprised there wasn’t a seventh – tea and cake in the afternoon.

dinner midday, tea evening and lunch midday, dinner evening is partly regional, partly historical. when i started school it was school dinners. by the time i left, it was school lunches. the south tend to say lunch and dinner. the north stayed with dinner and tea.

lamb’s lettuce is quite common. we don’t cook it though.

    did i miss anything out?

  • 03:05:06 pm on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

ok……so big long post disappeared……

  • 08:19:27 am on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

    morning candancie :)

  • 08:16:00 am on January 14, 2015 | 0 | # |

oprah is cheating. I wouldn’t find out much about you if I googled mick usa.

hope you feel better flute – half the students probably wouldn’t be there for the same reason.

  • 05:23:54 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

and the last sentence of your penultimate post sums up what i said – ie, who cares…

  • 05:22:29 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

you know my name and address ya big banana ;) if someone knows how to trace someone with just their forename and country, I’d like them to tell me how.

  • 04:56:04 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

flute – i said forename not name and address

  • 04:21:13 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

i understand all of that but all i said was i couldn’t understand why people would not reveal a FORENAME to people they had chatted to daily for 10 years.

  • 04:11:23 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

so first of all she accepted a friend request from someone she didn’t know and then he happened to be a burglar. was he also psychic and knew she would announce when the house was empty?

  • 03:58:46 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

ok i should have said ‘used’ for business rather than ‘listed’

  • 03:57:22 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

flute – who said the burglar was on facebook?? besides if her privacy settings were set to friends, only her friends would see what she posts.

even if that was the case, you can say the same about anything. for every one person that gets burgled, a million more post their holiday snaps with no problem.

  • 03:21:06 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

Damian – why would you think anyone would want to look?? and also i said forenames. i could understand people not wanting to put their full name on a public ebay board but a forename??

flute – I’d imagine when a number is listed for business purposes, that will sometimes happen. i have never had my number listed and the only ‘cold calling’ I’ve had is the computer generated dialling “Microsoft” scammers.

  • 01:46:39 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

i also could never understand why some were so precious about their real names (forenames)

  • 01:45:47 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

yeah I can sort of see the point but it sounds like an awful lot of work if some people are managing fine with one id. i suppose if you’re a seller, you have to be careful.

  • 12:47:43 pm on January 13, 2015 | 0 | # |

I don’t know what I’m missing but why did people have different ids for qa. was it to play tricks? I remember one or two being mortified when they were “caught out” and thinking ‘who cares?’ lol

can you keep an infinite number of emails. I don’t like webmail so use windows live mail and wonder if it will get clogged up as I’m not very good at deleting. also not sure if i’ll lose them all if I change isp. sigh – should have forced myself to use webmail.

  • 05:53:22 pm on January 9, 2015 | 0 | # |

I know what flute meant – the word “just” and the word ‘wrong’ in italics to me means ‘calling it a boulevard seems weird’

that’s my 6 eggs for what it’s worth.

  • 03:44:33 pm on January 9, 2015 | 0 | # |

hi flute – my pleasure ;)

I think we only say tarmac occasionally to refer to the road surface.

  • 02:37:00 pm on January 9, 2015 | 0 | # |

‘people of a certain age’ huh Miick?? hmmppfff

  • 02:35:11 pm on January 9, 2015 | 0 | # |

hi Donna – I think I remember you from qa or maybe it’s just here but I always thought you were Donna not Don. Dons don’t have 2 n’s do they? anyway I’m sorry for your loss (((hugs)))

hi Damian – that’s who you are! I remember that name from QA. it was one of the ones that was ‘hard to say’ lol. when I was on my trip, it was quite funny to find we all read names to ourselves in different ways.

here the grassy strip between the pavement and the road is the grass verge. I’m not aware that on a motorway, anything further out than the hard shoulder has any name at all. the bit down the middle is the central reservation and the inside lane is the one on the….er……outside.

  • 05:28:15 pm on January 5, 2015 | 0 | # |

    hi anyone :)

    hi salt, candancie :)

  • 06:33:21 am on January 3, 2015 | 0 | # |

sorry flute – I got distracted then nodded off.

    happy birfday Damian! :D

    now gimme a cookie…….

  • 06:54:16 pm on January 2, 2015 | 0 | # |

    hi flute :)

  • 05:42:31 pm on January 2, 2015 | 0 | # |

happy new year flute! glad all is well :)

  • 09:38:04 am on January 1, 2015 | 0 | # |

Candancie – I was more dismayed – not shocked – about the gun being there in the first place but we’ve had the gun discussion so many times, I knew there was no point in expressing an opinion anywhere so tbh, I pretty much ignored the whole story.

    happy new year salt :)

  • 08:14:11 am on January 1, 2015 | 0 | # |

    happy new year Damian!

    where is flute? *worry*

  • 08:06:25 pm on December 31, 2014 | 0 | # |

sleep well and feel all better tomorrow :)

  • 07:36:53 am on December 31, 2014 | 0 | # |

    did I break the board?

    morning anyone :)

  • 08:10:16 pm on December 30, 2014 | 0 | # |

hi flute – I’d imagine they are one and the same.

I can understand that about the tea – the smell is very off putting. it was awful for me when my mum broke both wrists and I had to keep making her tea. lol

  • 07:13:23 pm on December 30, 2014 | 0 | # |

    lol!

miick – I love sprouts and I can smell cyanide ;)

candancie – I may not partake but I know how it’s done ;) builders with builders’ bum have their tea in mugs – pg tips usually ;)

  • 03:40:26 pm on December 30, 2014 | 0 | # |

I’ve always said as I’m English and hate tea, I assume I must be missing a gene ;)

  • 03:19:52 pm on December 30, 2014 | 0 | # |

as you know I’m missing a gene so I couldn’t say. lol

  • 03:02:03 pm on December 30, 2014 | 0 | # |

tea in a mug is ok but earl grey……..really ;)

  • 02:32:51 pm on December 30, 2014 | 0 | # |

any tea drinker will tell you it’s always time for tea :D but earl grey in a mug?? no no no – it must be a fine bone china cup and saucer ;)

  • 01:02:45 pm on December 30, 2014 | 0 | # |

salty! that’s the one. Louis enjoyed his catnip :)

when the clock strikes three, everything stops for tea!

  • 04:45:23 am on December 30, 2014 | 0 | # |

I didn’t realise it was bad form to discuss the 2 boards, especially as I didn’t start it!!

anyway, what’s the harm? I’m quite happy to log into both. there’s not enough happening on either to command attention and I don’t see why it has to be either/or. Spencer’s doesn’t scroll fast these days and she’s told me how to get round the disappearing posts problem :D

I hadn’t thought about other boards but now I do, the guy with the catnip did invite us to his board. I joined, I don’t think anyone else did. then I forgot. I only know of 1 on facebook, obviously I wasn’t invited to the other one.

Damian – nice to see you again :)

Flute – you always fall asleep in front of the computer! ;)

  • 06:29:08 pm on December 29, 2014 | 0 | # |

I have to say I wasn’t aware of cliques until I joined facebook. in fact it always amazed me that by and large so many people seemed to rub along. there was an occasional argument of course but most of the ‘bad blood’ was when there was a troll trying to upset the applecart.

  • 06:27:01 pm on December 29, 2014 | 0 | # |

salt – I agree. I find the scrolling difficult but here there is no conversation – just replies to posts made hours before. as an outsider it looks more like a blog. as the format of this site is so similar to eBay’s I was surprised this one wasn’t more popular.

  • 01:09:51 pm on December 29, 2014 | 0 | # |

by definition any group of people will contain different personalities. all those were happily alongside in the old ebay board. now there are a handful of people there and ships that pass in the night here. it would seem logical to have everyone in one place as before.

  • 12:25:04 pm on December 29, 2014 | 0 | # |

course I do – have always said it’s a shame ne’er the twain shall meet :(

  • 09:29:05 am on December 29, 2014 | 0 | # |

    lol! nearly half past 2

  • 09:12:53 am on December 29, 2014 | 0 | # |

    hi flute – it’s now 14:12

  • 08:33:04 am on December 29, 2014 | 0 | # |

    :)

  • 08:59:35 am on December 28, 2014 | 0 | # |

    morning candancie and fluffa :)

  • 07:10:58 pm on December 27, 2014 | 0 | # |

hi flute – huh? facebook isn’t my official address you know. I just thought you might like it is all (you would).

the ebay address convo is interesting because I rang them about that very thing a few days ago. I bought something ‘brand new’ that was well used. seller insists I send it to her mother. rang ebay to check and they said ‘you must NOT send it to any address other than the one the seller has on file’.

  • 04:00:38 pm on December 25, 2014 | 0 | # |

ohhhh – over there. found it :D

  • 03:58:38 pm on December 25, 2014 | 0 | # |

nope, I don’t see that. I’m using ie but it’s probably me being dim.

  • 03:56:01 pm on December 25, 2014 | 0 | # |

exactly, I agree but gawd, some people get so worked up about it!

lou is holding his own thanks – still hunting and fighting. we are frequent visitors to th vet.

  • 03:45:59 pm on December 25, 2014 | 0 | # |

    I can’t see trash either ;)

i’ll admit, bad grammar/spelling does grate a bit but not to the extent of some of the grammar police on facebook. I’m always getting pulled up for using words that are perfectly normal here.

  • 02:33:04 pm on December 25, 2014 | 0 | # |

gawd – did this turn into the grammar forum? ;)

  • 02:30:23 pm on December 25, 2014 | 0 | # |

hi candancie :) I meant to say delete – I did manage to get as far as edit but then couldn’t see a delete option.

    hi miick :)

  • 01:59:08 pm on December 25, 2014 | 0 | # |

oops, nothing like a good start – couldn’t see how to edit

  • 01:56:50 pm on December 25, 2014 | 0 | # |

Happy Christmas anyone who’s here :)

  • 09:57:25 am on January 4, 2014 | 0 | # |

awwwwww….I love the frolicking moocows :D

  • 01:03:51 pm on January 3, 2014 | 0 | # |

flute – same in an open top car – other drivers may smirk but you only get wet if you have to stop.

    I don’t kiss Louis either.

  • 06:52:16 pm on January 2, 2014 | 0 | # |

    ditto on the ewwwww…….

  • 08:41:53 pm on January 1, 2014 | 0 | # |

    hi/bye candancie

    night flute :)

  • 08:05:13 pm on January 1, 2014 | 0 | # |

I’d hope so if he’s a good guy. that’s the problem isn’t it? they just blindly shoot off. I check the carrier all round for the same reason when I take lou to the vet.

  • 08:02:50 pm on January 1, 2014 | 0 | # |

I’m sure all the tradesmen who come down my lane think I’m some weird cat lady cos I always ask them to check their van before they leave, whether they’re at my house or someone else’s.

  • 08:01:11 pm on January 1, 2014 | 0 | # |

the man who services the boiler had it happen too. he took the cat back home. that was when I knew he was a good guy :D

  • 07:57:10 pm on January 1, 2014 | 0 | # |

Louis HAS to go in any open door – if I open a kitchen cupboard he tries to climb in. I’m sure it’s how he became a stray in the first place.

  • 07:49:30 pm on January 1, 2014 | 0 | # |

I’m surprised I’m not in bed as I was kept awake till 5am.

  • 07:48:19 pm on January 1, 2014 | 0 | # |

flute – I’m glad Katie reappeared. when Louis went in my attic crawl space, he went down over the far edge and into the gap beneath the floor and the ceiling. I was frantic and thought I’d have to get the fire brigade to dismantle the house but eventually I lured him to the edge with treats, grabbed his legs and yanked him out. he also had that horrible fibreglass stuff on his fur so I had to do my best to remove it. I think he’s too fat to get in there now but I have to watch him like a hawk if I’m in there.

flute said the other day, the only luxury gift she wouldn’t mind was a mansion with servants so I guess if that’s not on offer, nightwear and an address book ain’t bad ;)

hmmm…no I don’t get it….I was reading the Costco leaflet only the other day. I don’t think they let you in without joining and there seemed to be a long list of requirements to join.

  • 02:39:44 pm on December 26, 2013 | 0 | # |

hmmm…a Costco opened up somewhere round here recently. new to us I think. we don’t have sams club either.

yeah I’m always online flute but like to have some tv in the background.

I usually go to the gym Mondays and Fridays so trying to keep it up. trouble is with more people off work/uni etc. it tends to get busy.

  • 11:11:42 am on December 26, 2013 | 0 | # |

stay home and do nothing – ot will be manic everywhere. I’m intending to go to the gym tomorrow so I hope it’s not too busy.

the xmas tv offerings are particularly dire this year and I’ve discovered a new disadvantage of being old – whilst I used to enjoy casablanca and meet me in st Louis, I’ve now seen them so many times, I don’t want to watch them again.

  • 10:50:53 am on December 26, 2013 | 0 | # |

maybe so but it still seems like using a sledge hammer to crack a nut, especially as the day care ended up closing. and I thought it was the English who were uptight!

I think the OJ went in there with some xmas shopping. I could have gone to asda today but it would be manic and I’m so anal about my car, I try to only go when the car park’s half empty. I’ve got one spot in asda and one in Tesco that I like. lol

good grief – that’s ridiculous. couldn’t they wait till the new food arrived for proof?

anyway I found the OJ which is now in the nice clean fridge (in spare bedroom – must have seen logical at the time) and I’m feeling very virtuous.

*phew* cleaned one shelf in the fridge and you know how that goes…..whole fridge cleaned and out of date stuff lurking at the back, binned. now I can’t find the long life OJ that I especially bought so I could still have OJ without battling through the xmas hysteria. sigh

flute – your older and less agile comment reminded me of my friend’s experience with the xmas decorations this year. she has a ton of them in boxes in the loft – she goes up and gets them and passes them to her husband who’s on the ladder. this year as he took one of them, he overbalanced, went smack down on his back and cracked his head against the wall. he was out cold for several minutes. she panicking like mad obviously, brought him round and then he passed out again! came to shortly afterwards and refused to go to hospital. she spent the rest of the day poking him to wake him up every time he nodded off in the chair. he was fine – unbelievably not even a bump on his head.

on xmas eve when we all sat down to dinner, there were 12 of us so he was on a stool, guess who sat down and immediately toppled backwards, flat out on his back. lol! fortunately he got straight back up but my friend made him swap with her so she sat on the stool. lol

oh good it worked 2nd time. 1st time I got a message saying ‘are you sure you want to do this?’ then the whole puter froze up.

  • 08:10:08 pm on December 23, 2013 | 0 | # |

exactly. by the time you get to our age, you don’t want anything really. nothing you can’t do without anyway. I’ve started to brainwash people this year – imagine how well the charities will do if next year we give the money to them instead. also no shopping to do. win win.

  • 07:59:34 pm on December 23, 2013 | 0 | # |

and yes, bah humgug. none of us want anything. money would be far better going to charity instead.
